Social Responsibility
|
We strongly believe in giving back to society the benefits of our business. This is best seen in our efforts to organize and participate in socially relevant projects, sustaining our commitment “to be there” for national development.

Employee Outreach
Our commitment begins within the organization with the establishment of the P I Foundation on our 40th anniversary. Through the Foundation’s education assistance program, we have helped shape the future of our employees’ children.
The Foundation’s first project, the Tuition Assistance Program, continues to grant loans to our employees for their children’s education. Another endeavor, the Tulong Pang Dunong or “TUPAD,” awards 10 scholarship grants yearly to qualified children of our employees.

Upholding Education
Extending our commitment to education to the Filipino community, we highlight these projects: - The establishment of a professorial chair at the University of the Philippines; - Financial assistance for the expansion of the school facilities of the Immaculate Concepcion Academy in Manila and the Lanao Chung Hua School in Iligan; - Financial assistance to the Insurance Institute for Asia & the Pacific, for which one room of this institution was named “Pioneer Insurance” and - The donation to the “Ang Bahay ng UP Alumni” by the P I Foundation

Supporting the Public Sector
Responding to the government’s call for private sector assistance, our company helped sponsor the Metro Manila Commission’s Pook Batayan Project. The project was one of the earlier efforts initiated to address traffic management concerns. This was succeeded by Project EDSA, which focused traffic management efforts on one of Metro Manila’s major highways: the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue.

Promoting the Filipino Culture
We, too, have been advocates of Philippine arts and culture, striving to promote what is Filipino to local and international communities. Our publications feature Philippine themes, while our corporate gifts showcase the country’s finest crafts.

Calamity Assistance
“Being there when you need us” becomes even more important in times of calamity.
In 1984, funds intended for the company’s 30th anniversary celebration were donated to victims of typhoon Nitang in the ravaged southern provinces.
In 1990, a killer earthquake struck the country’s northern summer capital. Responding to the need for immediate reconstruction, Pioneer Insurance purchased P3 million-worth of reconstruction bonds and US$110,000-worth of dollar-denominated bonds. This assistance spearheaded the industry’s total contribution of over P100 million to the government’s rehabilitation efforts.
Assistance had also been extended for victims of the Mount Pinatubo eruption in June 1991.

Spiritual and Social Development
Pioneer Insurance contributed to the construction of the Our Lady of Peace Chapel, the inter-faith worship center which commemorates the 1986 “People Power” Revolution.
We also extended financial support to the construction of the Sangandaan Cultural Center in Makati City.
Our life operation began its partnership with Unicef in April 1998 when it donated Early Childhood Enrichment Kits for the benefit of 10,000 Filipino children in day care centers in rural areas. Each year since, “Christmas in June” is commemorated with the life company setting aside a fixed sum for each policy sold by its agency force in the month of June for turnover to Unicef.
