Pioneer Unveils “Big Heart” Shirt Design Winners

Special guests and everyday mallgoers were treated to an unforgettable Awards Night experience, as Pioneer announced the winners of its Big Heart Graphic T-Shirt Design Contest at Greenbelt 5’s The Gallery last February 1, 2018.

Launched in December 2017, Pioneer teamed up with graphic design powerhouse Team Manila, to launch the Big Heart Graphic T-Shirt Design Contest, which encouraged students from the country’s colleges and universities to showcase their talents in designing a graphic tee that will inspire random acts of kindness among Filipinos.  From the 153 designs submitted, the top ten finalists whose graphic tee designs vied for the top prizes were: Michaela Marie Balagapo (Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila), John Carlo Barlaan (San Sebastian College – Recoletos), Alicia May Zamudio (Mapúa University), Antonette Perez (De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde), Chester De Guzman (University of Philippines Diliman), Louie Ico (Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College), Joshua-Rei Panaligan (University of Makati), Mary Grace Carpizo (Lyceum of the Philippines University), Joe Mari Manalo (Emilio Aguinaldo College), and Kenneth Ruiz (National College of Science and Technology).

Apart from being framed and displayed for public viewing prior to the program, the finalists’ shirts were also exhibited through a series of dance numbers during the final judging. CCI-Asia Chairman Emily Abrera, Associate Creative Director OJ Desuasido, Graphic Designer AJ Dimarucot, Team Manila Co-Founder Jowee Alviar, and Pioneer Life Inc. President Lorenzo Chan Jr. served as judges, while former MYX VJ K.A. Antonio hosted the event.

Perez’s “Isang Lahi, Isang Puso” emerged as the competition’s champion, winning P50,000 in prize money. Panaligan’s “Taos Puso” and Balagapo’s “Kindness without End” designs bagged second and third places, winning them P30,000 and P20,000 in cash prizes respectively. Meanwhile, Zamudio’s “Biyahenihan” design clinched the Online Favorite Award, and was given P10,000. She and the other 6 finalists received P5,000 each in prize money.

On top of the cash prizes, all 10 finalists also received P100,000 worth of Personal Accident and P10,000 worth of Dengue insurance coverages from Pioneer.

The Big Heart Graphic T-Shirt Design Contest is Pioneer’s latest campaign in reaching out to colleges and universities that focused on heightening the appreciation for Philippine arts and spreading the positive message of insurance among millennials. Its previous successful endeavors included The Stories of Friendship Video Competition; a tie-up with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Tanghalang Pilipino, and Writer’s Bloc Inc. for the Virgin Labfest Campus Tour that eventually launched The Stories of Hope Playwriting Competition; and a partnership with Filipino Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, Inc. (FILSCAP) and ABS-CBN’s One Music PH for the #MoveOnLang Songwriting Competition.

The top three Big Heart T-Shirt designs will be available for purchase starting March 1, 2018 through Team Manila’s online store, Suez & Zapote Gallery, and Lazada. The designers will get to earn from every shirt sold bearing their design.
